Rabat - The Chérifien Phosphate Office (OCP) announced its plans to build new industrial complex for fertilizer production and a technology park in Morocco’s southern provinces for a total investment of MAD 19 billion.

On Saturday, the chairman of OCP, Mostapha Terrab, presented a draft of the ambitious project before King Mohammed VI during his visit to the Sahara region.

Terrab informed that Phosboucraa, a subsidiary of OCP, will be in charge of the development of the projected industrial complex for fertilizers and new technology park worth MAD 19 billion ($2 billion).

OCP and Phosboucraa’s new complex comes to complement the phosphate deposit’s already large fertilizer production of three million tons, the chairman explained.

Phosbouccra’s new phosphate production resulting from the projected industrial complex, will accomplish two goals. Part of it will be channeled through the drying station and exported out of the existing port.

The other part, according to OCP’s President, will be used for the production of one million tons of fertilizer to be exported out of a new port, part of future-planned infrastructure.

The OCP’s new complex will not only enable the development of local resources, but it will also contribute to the creation of an ecosystem, made possible by SME’s (small and medium enterprises) in the region.

According to Terrab’s presentation, the process of implementation of  Phosboucraa’s new project will require a budget estimated at MAD 16.8 billion, generating 1,270 direct jobs and over 3.85 million days of work.

Regarding the technology park’s construction, OCP and its subsidiary are committed to incorporating a multidisciplinary branch of the University Mohammed VI to prepare skilled individuals.

Generating 1,200 new jobs and an entrepreneurial incentive program to further the dynamic industrial activities, OCP will invest a budget of MAD 2 billion for the ambitious technology park in the southern provinces, according to the draft presented before the King.
