Rabat - A high school student in Marrakech claimed she was kicked out of her Islamic Education class last week for not wearing a headscarf, according to a report by Aljarida24.
The publication quoted students as saying that the teacher forced males to wear djellabas and females to wear headscarf inside the classroom.
On Monday, the student’s father visited the Director of Al Maghreb Al Arabi High School in Marrakech to complain about his daughter being asked to wear a headscarf or leave the classroom.
Abdelaziz Ziani, the high school director told Aljarida24’s correspondent in Marrakech that the father "was furious."
Ziani said the girl was kicked out of the Islamic Education class last Thursday, but he was unaware until last Saturday morning when the student came to the administration and complained against her Islamic Education teacher.
He added that an official at the administration advised her to bring a veil in her bag and wear it before entering the Islamic Education class to avoid being kicked out by her teacher, and then take it off after class.
Meanwhile, according to Ziani, the teacher Mohammed Sbai denied the student’s claims.
The Marrakech institution will open an investigation in this case and submit it to the regional academy of education for further review.
