Dakar - Senegal has welcomed the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council which renews the mandate of the MINURSO, adding that Morocco’s autonomy plan is a “serious and realistic” initiative towards the settlement of this artificial conflict.
Senegal's ambassador to the UN Fode Seck said, in a statement, the UN resolution “maintains hope for the continuation of the political process, which is the only way to reach a lasting settlement," Senegal's APS news agency reported.
The Moroccan autonomy plan “will help resuming the negotiations process between the parties in order to reach a lasting and mutually acceptable solution in accordance with the UN Charter," he added.
Senegal is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2016-2017.
