Rabat - Some 128 kg of cannabis resin (chira) have been seized and three people arrested at the border crossing point of Bab Sebta during three operations, customs sources said Saturday.
At a joint routine operation, customs and police elements on Saturday seized about 23 kg of chira carefully concealed, as platelets, in the dashboard of a Spain-registered vehicle and arrested the driver, a Moroccan-born Spaniard who was trying to smuggle the drugs into the occupied city of Sebta, the same source pointed out.
In a second operation, which took place Friday, authorities seized 60 kg of chira hidden in the form of platelets in a France-registered car driven by a Moroccan-born French who was trying to smuggle the banned substance into his country of residence via the occupied city of Sebta, the source added.
According to the same source, the authorities also seized around 45 kg of chira, concealed as platelets in different places of a France-registered car, driven by a an Algerian-born French who was trying to smuggle the drugs into the occupied city of Sebta and then to France.
The defendants were handed to the Tetouan police department services for further investigation before bringing to justice.
