Madrid - Spain gives "high priority" to its relations with Morocco, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Garcia-Margallo said Tuesday in Seville.
Spain gives, in its foreign policy, "absolute priority" to the Maghreb region countries, "especially Morocco," the head of Spanish diplomacy said at the opening ceremony of a seminar on "western Mediterranean opportunities and challenges", held by Spanish think tank Real Instituto Elcano.
He also highlighted the importance of the European dimension of his country’s foreign policy, adding that the challenges facing the old continent, notably population ageing, will oblige European countries to have recourse to foreign workers, especially from the Maghreb region.
Lamenting the deadlock situation in the Maghreb Arab Union (UMA), Garcia-Margallo said that among the EU's priorities is to promote regional integration between countries of this region.
He added that the situation in Libya is a "major problem", warning against the terrorist threat in this country that may endanger the stability of the whole region, and therefore that of Southern Europe.
