Washington - Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, former Archbishop of Washington, hailed, Tuesday in the US federal capital, the "relevance" of the efforts made by Morocco, under the leadership of king Mohammed VI, to protect religious minorities.
Speaking at a conference held at the National Press Club under the theme of religious minorities in Muslim majority countries, Cardinal McCarrick expressed his "gratitude" to the King for the "courageous and relevant efforts" made by the Sovereign to promote understanding and coexistence between religions.
"HM King Mohammed VI had the wise idea to bring together high-caliber Ulemas, scholars and educators from around the world to Marrakech at the Congress on the rights of religious minorities so that they openly express their views and visions on this issue", he stressed, noting that this approach bears the seal of "insight and courage".
This Congress, held on January 25-27 under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, was marked by the active participation of representatives of different religions of the world who witnessed the birth of the "important" Marrakech Declaration, Cardinal McCarrick underlined.
