Morocco’s Cycling Team Wins Africa UCI Tour

Rabat - Morocco’s cycling team topped the ranking of the African UCI tour in 2015,  according to a press release published on the International Report of Cycling’s website.

Morocco scored 1270 point points, followed by Algeria with 1161.8 points and South Africa with 876.88 points.

Mraouni Salaheddine, the 23 year-old Moroccan cyclist, scored 241 points in the ranking, making him the team’s and the competition’s top scorer. Mouhssine Lahsaini comes second place overall, scoring with 231 points.

Tunisia’s Rafaa Chtioui scored 221 points in the ranking. Eritrian cyclist Mekseb and took fourth place with 219.67 points, followed by Moroccan Essaïd Abelouache, who scored 212 points.

The Union Cyclist International website also highlighted Mraouni’s strong performance in the Challenge du Prince - Trophée Princier in Dakhla, southern Morocco. He won the event with 241 points.

Mohamed Belmahi, the president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Cycling, is excited about Salaheddine’s victory. He hopes it will help Morocco’s performance in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Morocco’s most recent Olympic medalist was Abdalaati Iguider, who won the bronze medal for the 1500-meter dash in London in 2012.
