New York - French-Moroccan film and television director, producer and writer Nabil Ayouch announced the modified plot of his new film “Razzia”.
Ayouch had released the name of his film “Razzia” in 2014 as a social science-fiction film. However, he has revealed that “Razzia” has evolved from its original idea.
“It is probably part of what happened in the world and what happened to me this year that motivates the change,” Ayouch was quoted by Telquel as saying.
Since the film is in its creative stage, the filmmaker did not release any further details on its plot or the modifications he has made to the original story.
“This film should be colder, less organic,” he said, explaining the ‘colors’ of the project, which seems very different from his controversial film “Much Loved”.
“Exploring a new aesthetic doesn’t mean that the film will be less realistic,” he said, adding that “In ‘Razzia,’ I want to be less visceral, more intellectual – exploring latent violence.”
“Much Loved”, the story of the lives of four prostitutes in Marrakech was banned in Morocco by the Ministry of Communication, which described it as a “serious outrage to the moral values of Moroccan women.”
Nabil hopes that his new film will be accepted and screened in Morocco. “With the new draft this will be a real test of whether there is still a place for me in Morocco to treat some subjects with some freedom of expression,” he said.
In his new film, Ayouch will tell the story in a more contemporary way while still focusing on the divisions of society, giving hope to those in despair, according to Variety magazine.
The 46-year-old filmmaker was acclaimed by his 2012 film “Horses of God” about the 2003 suicide bombers in Casablanca, which represented Morocco at the Foreign-Language Academy Award and the Golden Globes.
