Rabat - An imam from Texas has been forced to resign following his endorsement of Donald Trump’s call to ban Muslim from entering the United States.
Nidal Alsayyed, an imam at a mosque in Beaufort, Texas, has reportedly been forced to resign after he expressed support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's controversial plan to institute a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States."
As the entire world denounced and criticized Trump’s racist and controversial statements against Muslims, the imam came out in favor of the Republican presidential front-runner’s plan to ban all Muslims from entering the country.
According to 12NewsNow, the imam said that he considered Trump’s plan to be “wise.”
"I certainly see it to be wise [to] stop temporarily accepting any new Muslim immigrants [refugees and non-refugees] into the United States."
He added that his position "is based on the fact that we can hardly distinguish who is Muslim and who is not. Islam is not about an ID card or last name or shouting 'Allahu Akbar.'"
Shortly after he made the comments, Alsayyed said he was forced to resign as religious director of the Islamic Society of the Triplex in Beaumont, stressing that Trump’s controversial comments “are in line with the Islamic religion.”
“The text of the holy Quran says the loss of one life is equivalent to killing the whole mankind,” he was quoted by the Washington Times as saying.
“We cannot [be] behaving in the Islamic society in a way to act in a political dimension. If Trump said something that goes in line with our sharia law, yes we need to take all safety measure to protect people in the country. We are dealing with unknown people [who] are coming with different backgrounds,” he added.
