Brussels - The European Union expressed on Monday its support to the Moroccan presidency of the United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change (COP22) to be held on November in Marrakech.
The EU "commends the parties to the Convention, the United Nations and the French and Peruvian Presidency of the COP for their tireless efforts and fruitful work that led to the conclusion of the Paris Agreement and expresses support to the Moroccan presidency of COP22,'' the Council of the European Union said, following a meeting in Brussels of the EU foreign ministers.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini lauded the holding of this conference in Morocco.
Mogherini stressed that COP21 has given a great responsibility to Europeans in order to ensure that COP22, to be held in Morocco, will be also a success and that decisions taken will be implemented.
The choice of Morocco to host COP22, which will bring together some 30,000 participants, has reinforced the strong commitment of the Kingdom in the fight against climate change.
