Rabat - The provisional turnout for the general strike, observed Wednesday, reached 39 pc in the public sector and 4.8 pc in the private sector, Communication Minister, Government spokesman, Mustapha El khalfi, said Thursday.

In a statement read at the press briefing following the weekly cabinet meeting, El Khalfi said the strike took place in "normal conditions" and public services worked in a "normal way" in general

He underlined that the government will not be involved in a war of figures with the unions about the turnout.

The four main unions, the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), the Democratic Labor Confederation (CDT), the General Union of Morocco's Workers (UGTM) and the Democratic Labor Federation (FDT), said that Wednesday's general strike was a "great success, as turnout has exceeded 84 pc".

The minister stressed that the government "has not suspended or frozen dialogue since it held eight meetings with the unions, which have resulted in important decisions."
