Rabat - Moroccan authorities announced on Thursday the dismantlement of a terrorist cell affiliated with the so-called Islamic States (ISIS).
A terrorist cell composed of nine members was dismantled on Thursday in several Moroccan cities. Its members are linked to the Libyan branch of ISIS.
The arrests of members of the cell took place simultaneously in the cities of Marrakech, Smara, douars "El Hidate" and "Zbirate" near Sidi Bennour (province of El Jadida) and Casablanca Had Soualem in the suburbs.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the cell members were preparing terrorist attacks in the kingdom “following in the footsteps of ISIS’ savage practices around the world."
The statement from the Interior Ministry added that the members of this cell also planned to join ISIS camps in Libya to acquire combat expertise.
